"Yabba-Do Brangus cattle operation is a herd
based on years of proven genetics and experience"

YABBA-DO BRANGUS STUD
Quality is always our main goal

We began with commercial Euro/Brahman cattle before graduating to registered black Brangus and believe we know what the commercial grazier needs. Our Black Brangus cattle carry the Greendale bloodlines as well as the American Brinks cow family genetics. The Angus/Brahman genetics provides proven characteristics of ability to finish, adaptability and quality of meat in a package that is easy to maintain and productive.

All heifers and bulls are calf vaccinated and cows and calves stay on a strict worming and vaccination program. Our cattle are well cared for on river country but are in working pasture condition to be able to go to your operation and continue to progress. All calves are supplemented on grain whilst in the pasture to enable them to perform with ease in the feedlot or paddock.

Our sale Bulls are reared at home in the paddock with access to grain. All are vaccinated with 7.in.1, 3 germ blood and semen tested. Culling is stringent with temperament, structure and reproductive quality paramount. All rejected bulls are sent to the meatworks.

The Yabba-do Brangus stud is located on 390 acres of improved and irrigated alluvial soils alongside the Yabba Creek and the Mary River at Kandanga, Sunshine Coast, Queensland and is managed by Mrs Naomi Cooney in partnership with her father Graham Engeman of Gympie and uncle Nigel Munt of Tansey. Naomi is a graduate of The University of Queensland specialising in large animals but most importantly is very practical with the rare ability to apply the theory on the farm. Naomi handles all the cattle from AI to castration as well as controlling the embryo programs. Naomi's husband, Darren, works on and off farm and hails from the western Queensland area of Eulo. Naomi spent time working for her cousin at Wandoan on the Greendale Brangus Stud before its dispersal. The goal of Yabba-Do Brangus is quality seed stock that provides both Stud and Commercial breeder with the Bull or Female that can complement and improve their herd.

The first females were purchased in 2005 at the dispersal of the Greendale herd at Roma in Queensland and later in 2007, Yabba-Do were the Australian volume buyers of Brangus embryos at the Camp Cooley international embryo auction, the first of this magnitude for purebred cattle and held by Auction Plus and Elders. Buyers from the United States, Australia, South Africa, Argentina, Brazil and Mexico took the opportunity to share the future of Camp Cooley genetics at the sale. 102 lots sold to Australia via AuctionsPlus and another 50+ lots sold to Australians present at the auction in the USA. With Brangus being one of the fastest growing Studs in Australia, this Auction provided an opportunity to introduce new genetics complementary to the great Australian bloodlines available here.

Yabba-Do Brangus purchased 124 Brangus embryos hoping for many females to bolster their breeding herd. The embryos purchased from the Different by Design sale were selected mainly for temperament, tidy sheath and fertility. The first embryo calves (25 bulls and 14 heifers) were on the ground in September/October 2008 and are looking very promising with length, well muscled, good structure and are really growing well. The most obvious feature to date has been their very quiet temperament and suitability to Australia.

Today Yabba-Do stud is mainly using AI with natural mating for clean-up and is doing more ET to boost numbers with a further 36 embryos implanted in 2009. They like the predictability and new bloodlines from the US which they believe will produce a strong new bloodline of Australian and American genetics. American Brangus are stabilised at 5/8 - 3/8 making a solid base for Australians to expand either the Brahman or Angus content depending on the needs. Yabba-Do returned to Camp Cooley in Texas in June 2009 and spent 2 weeks visiting a number of Brangus breeders across 11 States collating a list of suitable females and bulls for future embryo and semen imports. The cattle selected will provide power, bone, muscle and a background of many generations of Brangus to Brangus breeding giving animals that breed true to type, an important quality sought by all cattlemen.

Camp Cooley Brinks bloodlines fit very well with Australian cattle being of similar size, great temperament and structure. There are some very good calves from the embryos on the ground representing the best of USA genetics including Singleterry, Cole, Blanda, Csonka, Lambert, Garrett, Jesse and Unitas Sires in their parentage. The embryo bulls will be offered for sale during the 2010 sale season and should provide buyers with an opportunity to source new bloodlines and strong multi-generational genetics keeping Australian Brangus at the forefront of breeds available to cattlemen. Some embryo females will be available in 2009.

Yabba-Do are aiming for a Stud breeding herd of 120 young quality females and with these imported genetics and the Australian bloodlines purchased to date, will be able to provide suitable seed stock cattle to the Brangus Breed.

Cattle are available for inspection at the property in Bergins Pocket Road, Kandanga very handy to the Bruce Highway between Gympie and Cooroy about 2 hours north of Brisbane, Queensland. Call Mrs Naomi Cooney on 07 54884379 or 0427 106 067. Don't drive by without stopping in for a look.
